# Children and devices (/en/docs/platform/dashboard/children-devices)

Open **Children** in the sidebar. On the left is the list of child profiles; select one to manage them and their devices.

## Add a child [#add-a-child]

<Steps>
  <Step>
    ### Click **+ Add child** [#click--add-child]

    Enter the child's name and click **Add child**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Pair a device [#pair-a-device]

    A pairing code is generated automatically. In the child app, scan the QR code or type the 6-digit code. When the device connects, the dashboard shows **Device connected**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Name the device (optional) [#name-the-device-optional]

    Give the device a name such as *Alex's phone* and click **Save name**, or click **Skip**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Callout type="warn">
  Pairing codes are valid for **5 minutes** and work once. Click **New pairing code** to generate a fresh one.
</Callout>

## Edit a child [#edit-a-child]

Select a child and click **Edit**.

* **Name** — change the child's name and click **Save**.
* **Photo** — shown in lists, alerts and the Overview carousel.
* **Banner** — shown at the top of the child's page.

Images are resized and re-saved as JPEG before upload, which also removes location data from photos. They are stored on your account, so they follow you to every device you sign in on.

## Delete a child [#delete-a-child]

Select a child and click **Delete child**. The dashboard asks for your password to confirm: enter it and click **Delete permanently**.

<Callout type="warn">
  This permanently deletes the child's profile, alerts, timeline data and paired devices. It can't be undone.
</Callout>

## Devices [#devices]

Each child's devices appear as cards. A device's status is based on when it last checked in:

| Status      | Meaning                           |
| ----------- | --------------------------------- |
| **Online** | Seen in the last 2 minutes |
| **Idle** | Seen in the last 10 minutes |
| **Offline** | Not seen for more than 10 minutes |

The child page also shows **Devices**, **Online** and **Unread alerts** counts for that child.

<Callout type="info">
  Statuses are an estimate. They depend on the device's last check-in time, which may lag behind what the phone is actually doing, so a device can show **Idle** or **Offline** while the child app is still protecting it, and the other way round. The best check is the child app's own status screen, which shows **MONITORING ACTIVE** when protection is running. See [Known limitations](/en/docs/support/known-limitations).
</Callout>

Each device card lets you:

* **Rename** the device.
* **Revoke** it. The device loses access immediately and the alerts it created are removed with it. This can't be undone — to use the phone again, pair it with a new code.
* Open its **device page** for details.

<Callout type="info">
  A device that shows **Offline** for a long time may have been stopped by battery saver, or may simply not have checked in. See [the troubleshooting list](/en/docs/platform/dashboard/notifications#not-receiving-alerts).
</Callout>

### Inactive devices [#inactive-devices]

A device that hasn't checked in for **30 days** is marked **Inactive**. A notice appears on the child's page and **Remove inactive** revokes all of them in one go.

### The device page [#the-device-page]

Click a device to open its page. It shows the device's details (child, type, last seen, paired date and device ID), its status, counts of **Alerts**, **High risk** and **Unread**, and an **Alert history** limited to that device. **Rename** and **Revoke device** are in the side menu, and **Back to children** returns to the list.
