Editions
The three planned Canopy OS editions — Family, Institutional and Personal — and the defaults each is set up with.
Canopy OS is built in three editions on one shared base. Each edition writes its name into /etc/canopy-edition and ships its own protection defaults.
Early and unfinished
The defaults below are written in the images, but the Horizon and network-filter services that would read them aren't installed yet. They describe the intent of each edition, not protection you get today. See the overview.

Family
For a home computer used by children. It is the strictest edition: Horizon in strict mode, the strictest web filtering profile, and a setup wizard that asks you to create a child profile.
Institutional
For schools and organisations that manage many computers. Detection and filtering are moderate, the wizard enrols the computer into a fleet instead of creating a child profile, and the image reserves a place for a device-management agent. An admin dashboard is part of the plan.
Personal
For adults who want privacy defaults without monitoring. Horizon is off, and the filtering profile blocks malware and trackers.
Which one for my family?
If you want protection for a child today, use the Android child app with the dashboard. Canopy OS editions aren't a substitute yet.
